Ease on down the road

Updated: Aug 4

Ease is the extra amount of fabric needed in a garment to allow for comfort during movement, such as walking and sitting. The amount of ease required can vary based on the type of fabric used. Here are some key points to consider:

Types of Fabrics and Ease Requirements

  • Stretch Fabrics: These fabrics require less ease due to their inherent elasticity, which allows them to comfortably conform to the body's movements.

  • Non-Stretch Woven Fabrics: These fabrics need more ease because they do not stretch, requiring additional room for movement and comfort.

In summary: when creating garments, it's important to consider the type of fabric to ensure the appropriate amount of ease is incorporated for optimal comfort and end use.

If you were to make a garment with no ease and no stretch, you would not be able to move properly. A true woven fabric needs ease if the end goal is to move and feel comfortable. Reyburn
